DD9: Being

Originally published in 2018 in Dirty Diamonds 9: Death under my previous pen name Rica March. The start of a long and complicated journey into death positivity that still informs my work today.

The first page of a grayscale comic. The author talks about their fixation with death, and how it began with the death of their grandfather. He disclosed how he wanted to be buried, and then a couple of weeks later he died in a car accident.
Second page. The author explains how they don't cry at funerals anymore. We all die. How can we be scared of something so common?
Third page. Understanding the common nature of death has turned the author into a death advocate, discussing freely what should be done with their body once they no longer need it. Their unbeing informs their being.
Fourth and last page. Death defines life like silence defines sound. It unites all of us, through history.
