Meaty Memories

Originally published in 2015 in Comfort Food Zine under my previous pen name, Rica March.

My second published comic and the first (but far from the last) where I dug into the loss of my grandfather.

First page of a black and white comic. The author talks about comfort food, and how that's usually simple things like ice cream out of the tub or nachos. Sometimes, when times are tough, that's not enough though...
Second page. The artist reveals that their favourite comfort food is moose. Their grandfather was a hunter, so moose meat was a staple at the grandparent's house. Their grandpa died when they were eleven, and years after that their grandmother died as well. Someone else lives in their house now.
Third page. When times are hard, the author buys a piece of moose meat. They cook it slowly, and carefully. They fill their kitchen with the smell that filled their childhood, and for a few hours they're with their grandparents again.
